The poor wise man !!

Ecclesiastes 9:14,15 "There was a little city, and few men within it; ;and there came a great kiing against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it: Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man"
In this two verse account there is a beautiful application of the Lord Jesus Christ and His redemption of mankind. Remember however, that this is an application only. Though everyone will not be redeemed, our Lord Jesus made provision for "whosoever will may come" Romans 10:13 "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
"There was a little city" In our massive universe that God created, lies planet Earth, so small in comparison to the mighty universe, yet still is precious in His sight. The creator of the mighty universe has all things (large or small) always in His love and care. Matthew 6:30 "Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?" Luke 12:6 "Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God."

"And few men within it" The mighty Creator of the universe who is omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient has no problem in handling the affairs of a "few" people on planet earth. Though we be numbered in the billions, the Lord has no problem whatsoever in handling the affairs of men.
"And there came a great King against it." Who exalted himself and declared "I will be like the Most High" (Isaiah 14:14) Who has always opposed everything that our God stood for? Who was the serpent who declared "Yea, Hath God said?" (Genesis 3:1) So obviously this great king who came against this little planet was none other than Satan himself.
"and besieged it" Through the subtlety of the serpent, Eve was deceived into believing his lies, but Adam sinned willfully, and they sinned against their Creator, plunging the world into sin and degradation and death even unto this very day. Romans 5:12, 17, 19 "Where, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: For if by one man's offense death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ) For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
"and built great bulwarks against it" These are protected walls, a fortress as it were, or a barrier. Is not our sin the greatest barrier between us and a Holy God? Who can penetrate the barrier of sin that lies in the human heart This besieging king has done a mighty fine job in putting up an impenetrable wall of sin in the hearts of men and women. Jeremiah 17:9 "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?"
"Now there was found in it a poor wise man" This is none other than the Son of Man, the Lord Jesus Christ. Though he is the Son of God, He became the Son of Man to accomplish the work the Father gave Him to do. John 17:4 "I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do." 2 Corinthians 8:9 "For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich." And as we read in 1 Corinthians 1:24 "But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God" the Lord Jesus Christ was the "power of God" and the "wisdom of God"
"and by his wisdom delivered the city" Who would have thought that the crucifying of the Lord Jesus Christ would have defeated the devil and the penalty of our sin would have been fully paid? " 1 Corinthians 1:23 "But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumbling block, and unto the Greeks foolishness; But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ thee power of God, and the wisdom of God." 2 Corinthians 2:8 "Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory." -Yes he was delivered up for us all Romans 8:32 "He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?" when He shed His blood on the cross of Calvary Revelation 1:5 "And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our in his own blood." Hebrews 9: 12, 28 "Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
"yet no man remembered that same poor man" Oh how tragic a situation. The penalty of all man's sin paid in full and yet the vast majority of the human race not benefiting because they will not trust in Him.
"Remember now thy Creator............" (Ecclesiastes 12:1)
"Remember therefore from whence thou are fallen and repent......." (Revelation 2:5)
"By which also ye are saved if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received How that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: (1 Corinthians 15: 2 - 4)
